About

If You Gave A Boy A Crown

About Dr. Deborah Sullivan

Dr. Deborah Sullivan is the first-time author of If You Gave A Boy A Crown, a story inspired by her lifelong dedication to children’s emotional growth. She has spent a career as a school psychology expert, helping children who had a hard time making friends, suffered from low self-esteem or felt like they were outcasts.

She has developed a unique and profound understanding of children and their needs, as well as the importance of emotional support, patience and guidance that a child needs in their development.

Deborah lives in Virginia with her husband, John, seven children, nine grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Being a part of a big family has helped her understand children’s personalities, emotions and needs. A large part of her career has been helping children develop empathy, respect and kindness which aligns very much with the home life she has built.

Why She Decided to Write This Book

Deborah wanted to write something for children, parents, and teachers to help start some basic but important conversations after working in schools for a long time. From personal experience, she wrote If You Gave A Boy A Crown to help young readers learn to think about how they treat people and the impact their actions have on others.

She hopes to provide emotional well-being support for children with the book and help adults discuss issues like fairness, acceptance, and understanding in a simple way. For Deborah, the focus of writing this book was not to become an author but to transmit the lessons she had learned working with children all her life. She aims to instill confidence, empathy, and connection in her young readers.
